How to become a Christian mostly means concentrating on a spiritual relationship with Jesus and second on the religious aspect.
Jesus is like a trusted friend not a religion. He is a friend that you can share all your concerns and secrets with. This happens through prayer, which is just a simple conversion with Jesus.
Prayer is nothing formal. You just talk to him like how you would talk to a friend. Now you won’t hear an answer because Jesus is a spiritual friend not a physical one.
How do you know that He has answered your genuine prayers is because you will see it shortly appear in your life. Time after time you will see your prayers answered.
Sometimes the answer is no and then later you realize that was the best answer for your life. Sometimes it will be yes and sometimes it will be no. It always turns out to be the right answer for your life.
I can remember an incident where I didn’t get my prayer answered the way I wanted and I was upset. Then later I found out that if what I wanted came true, it would not have worked out in my favour.
I thought it would have, but I later saw that it was the wrong decision. So I was glad that the answer to that prayer was “No.” It actually saved me a lot of heart ache.

These Are The First Steps To Christianity
1. Accept Jesus into Your Heart
Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” Matthew 11: 28 NIV. So bring all your worries and fears to Jesus and leave them with Him. You don’t need to carry them anymore. Jesus came to take away all your sins.
As the Bible says, “the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7. So let go of your worries and start to have the peace of God with you.
Jesus is what we all have been missing in our lives. There is an empty void that only Jesus can fill. The Bible says, “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.” John 3:36.
So this is why Jesus Christ is so important to Christians or “Christ”ians. Jesus says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” John 14:6 NIV.
2. Then Pray the Salvation Prayer
The salvation prayer is for accepting Jesus into your heart. I will give examples below, so that you have an idea of what to pray. Simply you are just praying for forgiveness of all your sins and to accept Jesus into your heart.

This is a very important prayer to admit that you have sinned and want forgiveness. This starts your relationship with Jesus on a fresh start. We are all sinners no one can say that they aren’t.
Then tell Jesus that you want to accept Him in your life and then start a new life by changing a few things for the better.
3. Commit to a New Life
Now no one is going to perfect. No one is asking for perfection, just steps towards a new fresh life with Jesus. Don’t worry if you stumble we all do. Just get back up.
Jesus is the light in a world full of darkness. Look to the light and not into the darkness. You are a beautiful child of God. The Bible says this in Galatians 3:26 KJV “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.”
Jesus also says that you are the light of the world in Matt 5: 14-16 NIV “You are the light of the world … let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
It doesn’t matter what you did in the past. You are the light now, because Jesus gives you the opportunity for a fresh start. No sin too great. Jesus loves you. Come as you are. There is no perfect time.
Just come. Jesus will clean you up and make you new again. The Bible talks about your sin in Isaiah 1:18-19 NIV like this, “Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. If you are willing and obedient …”
Have you had a hard life? The Bible says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Ps 34:18 NIV
So turn away from your old life and repent of all your sins. Then start a new one by really leading a Christian life from this point on. The Bible says, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Cor 5:17 KJV
4. Make Prayer Part of Your Life
Treat Jesus just like a spiritual friend. In order for a friendship to blossom you have to talk to your friend right? You talk to Jesus through prayer.
Prayer is just talking to Jesus about every little thing. It doesn’t have to always be about something you want. It can just be a pure friendship and of course you tell Him your needs as well.
5. Start to Read the Bible
In order to understand Jesus more, you need to start reading the Bible. Everything in the Bible tells you how to lead a Christian life.
So reading the Bible is your guide towards Christianity.
I first physically read the paper Bible. Now I really love the Bible being read to me at Biblegateway.com. What I like to do is listen and read at the same time. If I get distracted, it continues to read. LOL!
What I do is I type in the chapter I want to hear by pressing the speaker icon and then I click the play icon. This is such an easy way to absorb the Bible!
You can get a free Bible app at Bible.com for any of your devices like your phone, computer and tablet.
You can also buy a paper Bible at a book store online and get it shipped to you. Or just physically walk into a bookstore and buy it. Like I said above there are free Bible apps and the Bible is available free online, so you don’t need to spend money unless you want to.
6. Find a Good Church to Go to
Like the old phrase goes, “No man is an island.” You need people to help encourage you. It’s great to be around other people who want the same thing as you do. They will help you with your walk in Christ.
So how do you find a church to go to?
I’m a Pentecostal Christian and I love it! So I would recommend you finding a church that is either Pentecostal, Evangelical, Baptist or Methodist.

7. Eventually Get Baptized
When you become a Christian the Bible wants you to eventually get baptized as it is written in Acts 2:38-39 NIV “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”
The baptism that the Bible talks about is when you are mature enough to know about the sins that you have done, repent of your sins, accept Jesus into your life and be baptized in water.
Your local church does baptisms. When you are ready you can talk to them about that.
8. Witness to Other People
You don’t have to keep Jesus to yourself. Tell other people about Him and how He changed your life for the better.
There are so many people out there that might be able to relate to your story.
When they hear your story of how Jesus changed your life for the better, it just might change their life as well.

So becoming a Christian might not seem like it’s important, but it could turn out to be the most important decision you could make in your life.
It’s because everything on this earth is here today and gone tomorrow. The only thing that is eternal is a life with Jesus in heaven.
So don’t wait for the perfect opportunity. Now is the time. Please start today.
